The “Hear Dakar II” project follows a previous and similar project and is aimed at children with hearing impairments. It includes care measures, customized hearing aids, and follow-up care for children aged 5 to 15. The beneficiary children and young people come from highly vulnerable households that live from rain-fed agriculture and livestock farming and have a very low annual income. These children are among the poorest in the region.
Project Objectives:
- Improving admission conditions and patient care
- Providing hearing-impaired children with customized hearing aids
- Ensuring medical care and follow-up care for those affected
Project Activities::
- Raising awareness of the care of hearing-impaired patients
- Training children and parents in techniques for fitting and maintaining hearing aids
- Providing hearing aids for vulnerable children
- Care and support for hearing-impaired children
- Strengthening the reception capacity of the ENT department by expanding the size of a room for consultation activities
- Distributing medication for the treatment of hearing to the poorest children in districts, schools, and households
- Free consultation hours and counseling
- Raising awareness and involvement among local teachers
- Cooperating with local administrative authorities and hospital management to ensure the best possible sustainable care and long-term provision
