Art can inspire, bring people together, and drive change.
This is precisely the mission of the international project Sailing #Art4GlobalGoals, which – in collaboration with artist Stefan Szczesny, initiator Dirk Geuer, and with the support of UNESCO – highlights the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in an extraordinary way.
As a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and Chairwoman of the YOU Foundation, Dr. Ute-Henriette Ohoven supports the project with great conviction. For nearly four decades, she has championed UNESCO’s values in particular, quality education, equal opportunity, peace, cultural dialogue, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Art as an Ambassador for the 2030 Agenda
UNESCO was founded with the goal of building peace in the minds of people.
Art, culture, and education play a central role in this. They foster understanding across cultural and linguistic boundaries and promote awareness of our shared responsibility.
This is exactly where Sailing #Art4GlobalGoals comes in:
Stefan Szczesny ‘s colorful art works using sails as canvases become floating ambassadors for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and boldly promote an important message. They not only make the Global Goals visible but also allow people to experience them emotionally.
Less than four years until 2030
Time is running out. With each passing year, the target year of 2030 draws nearer. This makes it all the more important to stand together for the five guiding principles (5 Ps) of the 2030 Agenda:
People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.
The challenges are immense: climate change, hunger, poverty, resource scarcity, and growing refugee flows show just how closely the future of all people is intertwined. The 2030 Agenda is therefore far more than a political program – it is a global contract for the future.
Creativity Drives Change
Sustainable development requires political decisions and economic investments. It also requires inspiration and the ability to connect with people on an emotional level. Art possesses this unique power. It draws attention, inspires hope, and motivates people to become part of the solution themselves. This is precisely why Sailing #Art4GlobalGoals plays a vital role in bringing the United Nations’ goals to a broad public.
