The YOU Foundation– Education for Children in Need is an initiative founded by Dr. h.c. Ute-Henriette Ohoven, a Goodwill Ambassador for UNESCO. Dr. h.c. Ohoven promotes education for the poorest of the poor worldwide. The foundation and its founder follow the mission and values of UNESCO´s 2030 education agenda. The focus is on the United Nation´s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as “Global Goals.”
In addition to the sustainable use of resources, special emphasis is placed on three areas; “High Quality Education”, “Gender Equality”, food security, agriculture in a changing climate, Resource and climate protection, resilience projects, clean water and human rights. These goals are realized through pilot and custom-tailored CSR projects.
In order to minimize the causes of economic, hunger or climate-related flight as much as possible, the YOU Foundation offers in particular qualitative and inclusive education, training and empowerment programs on site and trains young people and mothers for income-generating activities to promote opportunities. Concrete help for self-help is our omnipresent goal.
The name of the foundation originally was born a call for action by Mother Theresa in a meeting with Ute Ohoven: “It’s about YOU“ – an appeal to engage in charitable work helping the needy and disadavantaged – serving as a guiding principle of the foundation up to this day.

Development work and its requirements have changed drastically during recent years. Today, social investments generating a social dividends are widely seen as having the best chance to positively impact our globalised world.
We emphasize pilot and tailor-made enterprise (CSR-)projects that follow our YOU-Win-3-Factor approach: generating measurable benefit for the beneficiaries, their countries and the donors/sponsors.
The Essence
The YOU Foundation – Education for Children in Need emerged from the UNESCO foundation. The program Education for Children in Need was conceived 1992 in Paris by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Dr. h.c. Ute-Henriette Ohoven, the German UNESCO Kommission and the UNESCO headquarter. The Foundation Education for Children in Need was established in 2002.
Since its inception, the foundation realized more than 800 projects in 103 countries, opening the door to a better future for children, adolescents and mothers primarily by giving them access to education and vocational training.
Our Promise
Finances
The foundation is exclusively financed by donations. All donations are solely used for project work. The foundation finances its activities through donations and through receipts from the foundation´s endowment. At the beginning of each financial year, the foundation creates a budget serving as the basis for the administration of all receipts and expenses.
Legal Structure
It is a foundation with legal capacity under civil law. Your funds may only be used for statutory purposes. As a corporation that exclusively and directly promotes charitable purposes that correspond to the purposes of the statutes, the YOU Foundation is entitled to issue donation receipts (You Foundation's notice of exemption).
