UNESCO – PRIZE FOR GIRLS’ AND WOMEN’S EDUCATION 2021 AWARD CEREMONY, OCTOBER 15

The award ceremony of the 2021 edition of the UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education is being held as part of UNESCO’s celebration of International Day of the Girl 2021.

The ceremony will include a celebration of its first 10 laureates and the successful completion of the Prize’s inaugural cycle (2016 – 2020) and will conclude with the launch of the project ‘Promoting School Health Education for Girls in Africa in the COVID-19 era’, supported by UNESCO and Beijing University.

The formal ceremony will be followed by a panel discussion highlighting new evidence from UNESCO on the gender dimensions of COVID-19 school closures and the work of Prize laureates from Africa to advance education, health, protection and rights during this unprecedented global health crisis.

Established in 2015 by UNESCO’s Executive Board and generously funded by the government of the People’s Republic of China, the UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education is conferred annually to two laureates and consists of an award of US $50,000 each to help further their work in the area of girls’ and women’s education.
