The 2025 UN Ocean Conference, taking place in Nice, France, from 9 to 13 June, co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, is a critical moment to accelerate global efforts to protect the ocean. With marine ecosystems under increasing pressure from pollution, overfishing and the impacts of climate change, the Conference will convene world leaders, scientists, civil society and the private sector to drive urgent solutions for ocean health.
Under the theme “Accelerating action and mobilizing all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean,” the Conference aims to advance progress on Sustainable Development Goal 14. It is expected to adopt an intergovernmentally negotiated political declaration which, along with a registry of voluntary commitments from across sectors, will be referred to as the Nice Ocean Action Plan.
