Limited access to education and training, or long distances to educational facilities, lead to poor learning outcomes and significant school dropout rates in the village of Sathanur and in the Kashewadi region of India. Many people here live as migrants in slums \u2014 without prospects or opportunities for a professional life. Many young people are looking for ways to earn a living and support their families.<\/p>\n

What is a \u201cHUB?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

A \u201eCommunity Hub\u201c<\/strong>,\u00a0centrally located, offers free, self-designed education and craft training to disadvantaged people aged 10 to 65, allowing everyone to learn according to their abilities and various interests of the beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

A hub promotes personal development through new perspectives, skills, and knowledge that can be customized to individual needs. The hub and its trainers provide laptops, internet access, modern technology, electronics, and materials for practical scientific experiments, depending on the age of the participants.<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Promotion of digital literacy, skills development and STEM education, <\/strong>as well as income-generating measures using resources from the region (recycling\/upcycling)<\/strong><\/li>\n

  • Introduction of self-designed learning<\/strong> for school dropouts, children of migrant parents, and young mothers looking for learning opportunities<\/li>\n
  • Community hubs are where the growing number of school dropouts and young mothers<\/strong> can learn according to their interests and curiosity to improve their livelihoods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Results:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Per hub, al least 60 regular learners <\/strong>(more than 5 hours per week) per cycle and employment opportunities for the entire community<\/li>\n
    • Per hub, at least 20 Recyclingevents<\/strong> per year, with a focus on crafts, electronics, and low-tech products<\/li>\n
    • Focus on economic resilience <\/strong>for the communities<\/li>\n
    • Establishment of at least four innovative business initiatives<\/strong> per year\/per hub<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The hubs in Sathanur and Kashewadi focus on strengthening community skills through training and the creation of livelihoods.<\/p>\n
