A further milestone for Burkina Faso and Mali
The project “Education and Vocational Training for Sahel” is a program geared towards the improvement of general education and vocational training, of physical education and of cultural capacities in Burkina Faso and Mali. The YOU Foundation supports the goal of improving the lives of the extremely poor people who have been victims of crises and conflicts in rural regions of Burkina Faso and Mali and help them help themselves.
In concrete terms, this means creating educational opportunities for young people to improve their chances of employment, building a school, and enlarging a sporting auditorium to encourage further social and physical development. Furthermore, this means improving the food situation of the underfed children in the Kelbo community.
Achievements of this sub-project 1 in Mamabougou in a village in the Finkolo community include the building of a solar powered schoolhouse including the necessary furniture and materials.
The successful training of teachers occurred with nine teachers completing the program. The content of the trainings included topics such as class leadership and motivation as well as ethical and legal frameworks. Trainers visiting classrooms helped the less confident educators improve their teaching methods. The group “Tout pour enfant” offers the training together with the regional educational directive of Sikasso to ensure that high teaching levels are maintained.
165 students ranging in age from 5 to 15 years old are now registered and will receive a quality education. The access to education for girls, the poor, the marginalized and those children with special needs is secure thanks to the inclusive school and the just educational policies.
Also in Mali, the school year was interrupted by the Covid-19 lockdowns.
