Sailing for Sustainability
A very special regatta started on August 22, 2021 in Monheim am Rhein: seventeen sailboats, with sails that were expressively interpreted by artist Stefan Szczesny with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the campaign #Art4GlobalGoal, started their course on the Rhein under clear blue skies in the direction of Düsseldorf where they later arrived while increasing awareness of the sustainability goals along the way. We are already looking forward to the next stage of the regatta and the related exhibit on September 25, 2021 in Koblenz.
In partnership with Dirk Geuer of Geuer & Geuer Art and the internationally acclaimed artist Stefan Szcesny, the YOU Foundation, the artstar Verlag of Düsseldorf, the Sailing Bundesliga and the Monheim Kulturwerken, the SAILING#Art4GlobalGoals presented a show on water and at the same time an eye-catching sustainability initiative as part of the 75th anniversary of North Rhine-Westphalia celebration.
#Art4GlobalGoals, an initiative of the YOU Foundation and Geuer & Geuer Art with the support of UNESCO, that raises awareness for the 17 Sustainability Development Goals including “Zero Hunger,” “No Poverty,” “Good Health and Well Being,” “Quality Education,” and “Gender Equality,” is further expanded with SAILING #Art4GlobalGoals. Sailing is an very suitable medium to highlight sustainability.
Claudia Jerger, President of the YOU Foundation Board of Trustees, sailed on the boat with the sail corresponding to the 4th SDG “Quality Education” and was impressed with this one-of-a-kind campaign and thanked all its contributors for their efforts. An event that contributed to the realization of the YOU Foundation mission to take on the needs of disadvantaged people worldwide. Editions of the artworks can be purchased with a portion of the sale going to support the educational projects of the YOU Foundation.
The next station of the Cultural Regatta Sailing #Art4GlobalGoals will be the two-day tour from Koblenz to Monheim starting on September 25, 2021 and going until September 26, 2021.
