The YOU Foundation– Education for Children in Need is an initiative founded by Dr. h.c. Ute-Henriette Ohoven, a Goodwill Ambassador for UNESCO. Dr. h.c. Ohoven promotes education for the poorest of the poor worldwide. The foundation and its founder follow the mission and values of UNESCO´s 2030 education agenda. The focus is on the United Nation´s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as “Global Goals.” In addition to the sustainable use of resources, special emphasis is placed on three areas; “High Quality Education”, “Gender Equality”, and “Equal Opportunity”. These goals are realized through pilot and custom-tailored CSR projects.
To permanently reduce the causes of migration, terror, poverty and health epidemics and to minimize the shift of poverty to Europe, the foundation aims to provide education and training locally and to promote micro-entrepreneurship, thereby creating new opportunities for individuals in their native countries. To ensure a sustainable improvement in the level of education, it is of paramount importance that mandatory prerequisites are established. Medical care, regular meals and peace should always be considered as fundamental components in the lives of children, adolescents and women.
Mother Teresa addresses Ute-Henriette Ohoven, Calcutta – May 1997The name of the foundation originally was born a call for action by Mother Theresa in a meeting with Ute Ohoven: „It’s about YOU“ – an appeal to engage in charitable work helping the needy and disadavantaged – serving as a guiding principle of the foundation up to this day.

The Essence
The YOU Foundation – Education for Children in Need emerged from the UNESCO foundation. The program Education for Children in Need was conceived 1992 in Paris by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Dr. h.c. Ute-Henriette Ohoven, the German UNESCO Kommission and the UNESCO headquarter. The UNESCO Foundation Education for Children in Need was established in 2002.
Since its inception, the foundation realized almost 500 projects in 100 countries, opening the door to a better future for children and adolescents primarily by giving them access to education and vocational training.

Finances
The foundation is exclusively financed by donations. All donations are solely used for project work. The foundation finances its activities through donations and through receipts from the foundation´s endowment. At the beginning of each financial year, the foundation creates a budget serving as the basis for the administration of all receipts and expenses. Commercial decisions are based on the approved budget.
Legal Structure
The YOU Foundation – Education for Children in Need has legal capacity under civil law and must use its means and resources only for statutory purposes.
